The complexion of America is becoming browner and by 2050, there will not be a majority racial group. The Academy is preparing for the future through the Foundation’s “Prioritizing Diversity and Inclusion in Nutrition and Dietetics: Overcoming Obstacles to RDN Recruitment, Education and Advancement” Fellowship. This session will share research results and recommendations from a scoping review and thematic analysis of the barriers to and facilitators of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) among black, indigenous, and persons of color in: (1) nutrition and dietetics education (pipeline), (2) career advancement (practice), and the dietetics profession and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (profession). This session will expound upon take-aways from the scoping review and thematic analysis through the Individual plus Policy, System, and Environmental Conceptual Framework for Action, and mapped to assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation terminology from the Nutrition Care Process, as well as to a theoretic framework and allegory of a gardener’s tale examining race as a social construct. The goals of this session are to inform participants about actions to advance IDEA in our profession and to inspire attendees to get involved in allyship and anti-racism advocacy to push the envelope toward progress.
