Ana Abad-Jorge, Ed.D., RDN is an Assistant Professor at James Madison University, teaching Clinical Nutrition I and II, Life Cycle Nutrition, Foundations of Nutrition Practice and Nutrition for Wellness. Before joining JMU, Dr. Abad-Jorge served as Program Director and Assistant Professor for the Bachelor’s in Health Sciences Management at the University of Virginia for 6 years. Before transitioning to academia in 2014, Dr. Abad-Jorge had a 27-year clinical nutrition career at UVA Health, serving as a pediatric and neonatal RDN in various clinical areas including acute pediatrics, pediatric clinics, and the Newborn and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. She also served as the program director for the UVA Health System Dietetic Internship Program for close to 20 years.
Dr. Abad-Jorge earned her Master’s in Food Science & Human Nutrition from the University of Florida in 1986 and her Education Doctorate in Higher Education and Adult Learning in 2012. She has received numerous institutional and professional awards, including the ADA Foundation Doctoral Scholarship in 2010. Dr. Abad-Jorge has over 38 publications in the areas of pediatric and neonatal nutrition, nutrition higher education, and healthcare management education. Dr. Abad-Jorge currently serves as a program reviewer with the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and is a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND).
