Catherine McManus is a licensed, registered dietitian nutritionist, and Assistant Professor/Vice Chair for Education at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Catherine’s expertise focuses on type 1 diabetes and culinary/lifestyle medicine. She has completed advanced professional culinary training and has developed numerous culinary medicine research interventions, recently earning the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics’ 2020 Innovative Culinary Effort Award for her most recent intervention. Dr. McManus’ expertise in type 1 diabetes has afforded her the opportunity to hold numerous national leadership roles, including Co-Chair of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics’ expert panel committee on type 1 diabetes, member of the scientific advisory committee for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and member of the clinical and research advisory committee for The Diabetes Link. She recently was the recipient of the American Diabetes Association’s junior faculty health disparities and diabetes research grant to assess the efficacy of an innovative culinary medicine program she developed to mitigate racial/ethnic and socioeconomic disparities that exist in the treatment and health outcomes of underserved youth with type 1 diabetes.
