Caroline Passerrello, EdD, RDN, LDN is a nationally recognized registered dietitian nutritionist and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with 18 years’ experience motivating individuals, inspiring students, and leading organizations to achieve health and wellness goals. Currently, Caroline is faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in the Dietitian Nutritionist Program, with an emphasis on community engaged scholarship and co-author of Human Nutrition: Science for Healthy Living (3rd ed.).
Previously, Caroline owned a nutrition strategy consulting service, consulted on a Food As Medicine program, and served in many capacities at Giant Eagle, a regional grocery chain. As a retail dietitian, she worked directly with customers and she spent many years at Giant Eagle’s corporate office, supervising the retail dietitian program and leading the health and wellness strategy. She currently serves on the advisory group for the Academy’s Retail Nutrition Food as Medicine Feasibility Study.
Caroline received bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Clinical Dietetics and a master’s degree in Wellness and Human Performance from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2023, Caroline earned a doctorate in education, with a focus on dietetic preceptors’ knowledge and confidence in assessing student’s demonstration of cultural competemility. Caroline is said to be fiercely authentic, compassionately curious, and patiently innovative; so that she can positively impact policies and systems to transform the environment to one that supports nutritious food as a right, not a privilege.
