Charlotte Steppling MA

Charlotte Steppling, currently serving as the Director of Nonsurgical Programs at Operation Smile, has worked with the organization formally, since 2015. After Charlotte completed her Peace Corps service in Madagascar, she was motivated to continue working to create and implement humanitarian missions with Operation Smile by recruiting patients and managing local health system strengthening programs. In 2021, Charlotte became the Director of Nutrition for Operation Smile, responsible for maintaining and executing an organizational nutrition position statement and strategy, and program curriculum design, while overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition programs in 30+ program countries. In 2017, Charlotte co-founded Mahereza Nutrition and Health Center, after identifying needs in the areas of infant and maternal nutrition and health. The Mahereza Center organizes 6-week programs that provide free meals to malnourished infants and one of their caregivers. In collaboration with the Malagasy government Office of National Nutrition (ONN), 20 children and 20 mothers are identified for nutritional support each program session. Charlotte received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts, Social Justice and Policy Peace and Conflict Resolution from Duquesne University. She is pursuing her Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
