Cherine Hatem PhDc, RDN

Cherine Hatem is a PhD candidate in the Community Health and Nutrition Promotion lab in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston. Cherine is also a registered dietitian. Cherine had the unique opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of inspiring academic environments that encompass both the clinical field of nutrition as well as the research field. As a member of a multidisciplinary team of researchers at the University of Houston, Cherine was able to lead and participate in several research studies that contribute to the field of health and nutrition. Cherine’s research career has been focused on the health of minority groups and people who are medically underserved. Cherine has been involved in studies on food insecurity, health disparities, childhood obesity, dietary contributors to obesity, dietetic competencies, and dyslipidemia. Cherine is currently working on the Diversity and Inclusion Fellowship with Dr. Marie Allsopp and the RISA team of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This is Cherine’s second project with the Academy’s RISA team. Cherine had previously received the $10,000 EAL Fellowship Funding Award from the Academy for which she was granted the opportunity to lead a systematic review on the topic of dyslipidemia in adults.
