Carmen Young MFN, RDN, CSSD is an Associate Professor of Practice in the School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness at the University of Arizona where she teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses in sports nutrition. Carmen is heavily involved in curriculum development, student success and mentoring. Her passion for sports nutrition comes from being a former 4-year Division I collegiate swimmer at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). During her undergraduate and graduate degree studies at BGSU, she was heavily involved in nutrition research pertaining to athletes and athletic performance, body composition and was featured on several research publications. She has worked as a Performance Dietitian at Rutgers University working with the gymnastics, rowing, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, volleyball and football teams, as well as a private nutrition consultant with Sierra Fitness, LLC. Carmen is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), having served many positions at the Southern Arizona District level (S-AZAND) since 2019, including President, Past-President, Treasurer and Community Outreach chair. Carmen currently serves on the Nominating Committee for the Sports and Human Performance Nutrition (SHPN) Dietetic Practice Group.
