David Holben PhD, RDN, LD, FAND

Dr. David H. Holben is Professor of Nutrition and Gillespie Distinguished Scholar at the University of Mississippi. He Director of the Office of Food and Nutrition Security, a registered dietitian nutritionist with a Level 4 Certificate in School Nutrition from the School Nutrition Association, and a former commissioned officer in the United States Army Medical Specialist Corps (Reserve Component, 65C IMA, MAJ). Building upon a clinical nutrition and basic science background, his research primarily focuses on food studies, nutrition science and health STEM education, and the relation of food insecurity to health outcomes. Dr. Holben is the senior author of Position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Food Insecurity in the United States and has authored or coauthored numerous papers on the topic.
