Dr. Melissa Brown is a registered/licensed dietitian and Board certified in sports dietetics. She is Director of Graduate Options in Sports Nutrition at the University of Saint Joseph and Director of the Athlete Nutrition Advising Program. At USJ, Dr. Brown teaches graduate and undergraduate coursework in nutrition and sports nutrition and Directs the sports nutrition elective rotation for the dietetic internship and all Sports Nutrition Practicums and Independent Studies. Dr. Brown has been in the field of sports nutrition since the mid-1990s and is co-owner of Pro-Style Nutrition Consulting, LLC. Through Pro-Style Nutrition, Dr. Brown created the Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) Board Review Study Guide, Mock Exam and corresponding study resources. Dr. Brown serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals, has conducted multiple research studies with subsequent publications in the field and has been an invited speaker for international and national conferences. Dr. Brown has worked with all levels of sports nutrition including high school, collegiate and professional athletic organizations and has worked with numerous competitive, Olympic/Paralympic, elite and professional athletes on an individual basis. In addition, Dr. Brown is the Nutrition Advisor for Special Olympics Connecticut and was recently awarded the Golisano Health Leadership Award in 2020. She is a member of the Sports, Cardiovascular, Wellness Nutrition (SCAN) Dietetics Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA). Dr. Brown currently serves as Chair of the Research Grants Committee for SCAN.
