Diane E. Hoffmann, J.D., M.S., is the Jacob A. France Professor of Health Law at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law and Director of the law schools Law & Health Care Program.. She is the founder and director of the Maryland Healthcare Ethics Committee Network and has served on a number of ethics committees including those at the University of Maryland Medical System and the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health. She is currently a member of the Maryland Stem Cell Commission, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Medical Regulation, and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Center for Gut Microbiome Research & Education at the American Gastroenterological Association. She is the recipient of three NIH grants, all focused on regulation of new therapies and diagnostic tools stemming from the Human Microbiome Project. Her recent scholarship has focused on the regulation of new medical and health related technologies and has been published in law journals as well as scientific and medical journals including Science and the NEJM.
