As Vice-Chancellor of Academic Administration at Johnson & Wales University, Dr. Affenito oversees a broad portfolio and provides the executive leadership and vision to lead the development, planning, organization, and execution of academic programming and research. Prior to joining Johnson & Wales University, Dr. Affenito was the EVP of Operations, Provost/Dean of the Faculty at Norwich University and Associate Provost, Dean of Graduate Studies/ Dean of Health and Natural Sciences, and Professor of Nutrition at the University of Saint Joseph.
Dr. Affenito has over forty years of experience as a clinician, educator, bio-behavioral research scientist, and higher education leader. She earned a Ph.D. in Nutritional Science from the University of Connecticut and completed post-doctoral training in Biomedical and Behavioral Sciences at Wesleyan University through NIH. She is an alumna of the HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, Wellesley College, the Harvard Institutional Education Management program, and a Fellow of the Executive Leadership Academy at the University of California.
Throughout her career, Dr. Affenito has written and co-authored over 65 peer-reviewed journal publications relating to womens health, diabetes mellitus, and correlates of nutrient intake; she is an invited speaker at international and national conferences in these areas. Dr. Affenito served the Association as a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics for three terms, and as a Delegate and President for the Connecticut affiliate. In all these endeavors, Dr. Affenito remains committed to advancing nutrition science and dietetics through transformational education, research, and practice.
