Chef Renea Lyles, MS, RDN, LDN began her professional cooking career in the Chicago restaurant scene, graduating from the Cooking & Hospitality Institute of Chicago, Le Cordon Bleu in 2009 and working in various fine dining restaurants in both the savory and pastry sides of the kitchen. She grew up in a rural Indiana farming community where she gained hands-on experience growing herbs, fruits and vegetables in her garden as a child and teen. Working in restaurant kitchens taught her how to to build a flavorful and nutritionally balanced meal bursting with the ingredients from a seasonal Midwestern farm and garden. She has incorporated her culinary, nutrition and gardening skills into her professional career and she currently manages the UIC Nutrition Teaching Garden while teaching nutrition-focused cooking courses and food safety in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
