Kendra Kattelmann, PhD, RDN, LN, FAND is Distinguished Professor and Director, School of Health and Consumer Sciences, South Dakota State University and LEND Nutrition Discipline Head for the Center for Disabilities, University of South Dakota. She was formerly the Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. Dr. Kattelmann maintains an active research program that focuses on prevention of excessive weight gain in young adults through healthful dietary choices and environmental support. She also has work focusing on prevention of type 2 diabetes through traditional dietary patterns of the Native American. Dr. Kattelmann has been funded nationally by National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Food and Agriculture and is currently engaged in several projects with NC1193 Multi-State Team Healthy Campus Consortium investigators collaborating with Cooperative Extension partners for obesity prevention of young adults and children. Additionally, her work focuses on supporting public policy to support healthful environment that is making the healthy choice the easy choice.
Dr. Kattelmann has provided service to the nutrition and dietetics profession through serving as President of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior, House of Delegates in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commissioner on the Commission for Dietetics Registration, Chair of the Foundation for the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior, Chair of Nutrition and Dietetics Educators and Preceptors Council, and Board Member for the Accreditation Council for Education of Nutrition and Dietetics.
