Gabriela Proao, MS, RDN is a registered dietitian with both a clinical nutrition and research background. Upon graduation from the Florida State University’s MS/DI program, she began working as a clinical dietitian for the Veteran Affairs Healthcare System. There, she expanded her experience in medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for a variety of conditions including weight management, diabetes, heart disease, etc. She was also very active in quality improvement projects in her area such as increasing coding/documentation of malnutrition as well as innovative ways to improve customer satisfaction and patient care. In addition to her interests in clinical nutrition, Gabriela has a passion for research. Her research interests include implementation science, maternal and child nutrition, and global health. Her role is currently as a research project manager for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She works with the Research, International, and Scientific Affairs team on projects including domestic and global research projects on topics such as malnutrition and chronic kidney disease, a nutrition care process workshop, the Academys Council on Research and supporting Academy Foundation fellow research projects.
