Annette Besnilians dedicated academic leadership focuses on serving and educating the next generation of dietitians. She is the Executive Director of the Marilyn Magaram Center for Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics (MMC) and works tirelessly to provide robust educational, professional, and innovative opportunities for student with the passion to advance the understanding of nutrition, dietetics, and food in diverse communities. In addition, at CSUN she is the Director of the Dietetic Internship Program, and faculty. She holds a B.S. in Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Science and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from CSUN. She received her M.P.H. in Public Health Nutrition from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) while completing her Dietetic Internship at the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a Registered Dietitian (RD), and a Certified Lactation Educator (CLE). During her professional career, she has obtained several research and program development grants. In addition, she has established the Besnilian Scholarship to assist CSUN students in leadership and professional opportunities. Her research focuses on childhood obesity and diabetes prevention programs (e.g., family nutrition workshops, cooking, gardening, educational theater) designed to affect healthful behavior in participants and their families in low income schools and communities. Other research projects include body composition testing and education, and testing of antioxidant levels, sensory analysis, microbial content in plants. Additionally, a peer mentorship program has been developed to ensure student success and increased diversity in the field of dietetics.
