136. Philly Spotlight: Beverage Tax Successes and Challenges
Philadelphia is one of the few cities nationwide that has implemented the Beverage Tax, specifically designed to reduce consumption of sweetened beverages. In this interview with Dr. Christine Roberto, Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, we will discuss the advantages and challenges of this policy implementation and the impact it has on Philadelphians. Dr. Roberto is also the lead author on an article published in JAMA detailing the efficacy of the Philadelphia Beverage Tax. We will discuss the social implications of this policy and the nutritional impact on the communities the tax is meant to help improve. Participants will have ample opportunity to elicit discussion with our speaker during the Q&A portion of the session.
