Food policy councils bring together diverse stakeholders into networks to reach community health goals, connect important sectors in the food system, improve all members’ understanding of each other’s work, and improve the food system for all. Food policy councils are a growing part of the North American food system landscape. Numbering around 100 in 2008, that number grew to over 300 as of 2020. Find out why these numbers are growing and why it is important that RDNs have a seat at this table. Learn from the father of food policy council work and one of the most sought-after speakers on this topic, whose career spans 50 years. Being essential to the performance of food policy councils and the larger task of improving the health, food security, and sustainability of community food systems, this presentation will emphasize the concept of a food system and the practical application of systems thinking. RDNs who are making a difference in their communities by their involvement in their local and regional food policy councils will be highlighted.
