Integrating the patient and family voice into the design and delivery of healthcare is improving patient outcomes, leading to greater patient and provider satisfaction, reduced medical errors, and safer, more effective care. Grounded in the principles of patient and family centeredness, a patient- and family-centered system of care includes the patient and family voice at all levels of healthcare, “from the bedside to the boardroom.” This session, led by a family leader and RDN, will describe how family leaders have been successfully integrated into an interdisciplinary national training program, how to successfully engage patients in their care, and how family professional partnerships that include key stakeholders are impacting the design and delivery of care in Florida. The session will also describe challenges in engaging with patients and families at the individual and systems levels. Attendees will be given tools that will allow them to engage with patients and families in their nutrition and dietetics practice, in both the delivery and design of systems of care.
