This session will explore the health disparities in the Indigenous community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and how the Indian Health Board (IHB) addresses these disparities from a culturally informed perspective. In this presentation, IHB’s registered dietitian Kelsey Bigbee and IHB’s behavioral health consultant and staff psychologist Amy Fish will discuss how they formed an interdisciplinary team, along with IHB’s pediatrician, Dr. Angela Erdrich, to meet the unique needs of the Indigenous community in the Twin Cities. Presenters will discuss their approach to client education and goal setting during their collaborative team appointments which incorporate reconnecting to traditional food and food knowledge with a focus on mindful body attunement. Through interactive videos and demonstrations, presenters will showcase how they indigenize health coaching to provide life-affirming care to their diverse clientele.
